The Yorkshire Ghost Walk Experience

The Ghost Walk in York started innocently enough with a tour guide in a cape who collected the 4£ fee, but quickly turned into one of the most nerve-racking experiences of my life. This might have to do with the fact that Rich, who joined me on this walk, is himself a bit scary at times.

So obviously, I concentrated most of my attention on him because I was certain he’d try to startle me. This, however, turned out to be a major mistake.
On the second but last stop of our tour I stood with my back to a very dark alley in a churchyard. Anticipating some sort of spook I kept turning around to see if somebody - or something - was coming at me from behind. When I wasn’t doing that, I kept an eye on Rich.
Stupidly enough I wasn’t paying attention to the ghost story the guide was telling, and when he lurched at me with a roar, I, fully unprepared, screamed out in terror so that half of York must have heard me. The guide started laughing and said: “You just rose up about two feet in the air!”
The whole group of five were laughing at me whilst I was trying to recover from the scare. The guide, however, had a hard time doing so himself. It was a while before he could stop laughing and get on with the tour.
